Plus-size representation in fashion has had its ups and downs recently, but the work of Black plus-size models continues to shape how the industry thinks about beauty, confidence, and visibility. Even as runway inclusivity fluctuates, these women are important figures to know, not just for their modeling careers, but for what they represent in the larger push for diversity.
Here are five Black plus-size models who are making an impact right now.
1. Precious Lee
Precious Lee is one of the biggest names in curve modeling today. She rose to global attention as the first Black plus-size model to grace the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, breaking long-standing barriers in the industry.
Her vibrant presence on and off the runway challenges conventional beauty standards and celebrates self-acceptance. Precious continues to inspire many by proving that style, confidence, and body diversity can coexist beautifully.
2. Philomena Kwao
Philomena Kwao is a British-born model and an advocate for representation in fashion. She has worked with a range of brands and used her platform to push for inclusivity beyond just one look or size.
Because she speaks up about diversity and body rights, many people see her as a voice as well as a face in the modeling world, someone who is helping shape a broader definition of beauty.
3. Enam Asiama
Enam Asiama identifies as a “fat queer Black woman” and her influence goes beyond modeling. She uses her presence and voice to empower other plus-size women of color, inspiring people to tell their own stories on their own terms.
Her work reminds us that fashion and modeling can be about more than just what’s on the runway, it can be about identity, visibility, and narrative.
4. Olivia Campbell
Olivia Campbell is another Black plus-size model who’s been gaining attention for her work with inclusive clothing brands like Yours Clothing and Anna Scholz.
Her growing portfolio of collaborations and runway appearances shows that plus-size models continue to be in demand for both commercial and fashion-driven projects.
5. Liris Crosse
Liris Crosse has been in the industry a while and is known for her strong presence on runway platforms like New York Fashion Week and Full Figured Fashion Week.
Often called “The Naomi Campbell of Plus,” Liris has established herself as a model with both experience and personality, proving that longevity and confidence are major assets in fashion.
While some recent reports show a decline in the number of plus-size models featured on the main fashion runways, individual stars like the ones above continue to push for representation and challenge industry standards.
These models serve as role models not just for aspiring models who share their body types and backgrounds, but for anyone watching fashion evolve. They remind the industry (and the world) that beauty doesn’t fit into one mold.
